TWO PERSON EXHIBITION: KIM JOON & HONG SUNGCHUL
SOLITUDE, SOLIDARITY
September 18 - October 30, 2021
The <Kim Joon & Hong Sungchul: Solitude, Solidarity> is a two-person exhibition of artists Kim Joon and Hong Sungchul that invites the viewers to reconsider human flourishing in regards to self-actualization and commitment for the community.
The pandemic crisis ushered humanity to rethink and reimagine the well-being of self and others. Through the major works of artists Kim Joon and Hong Sungchul, Waterfall invites viewers to consider the interdependent relationship between self-actualization (solitude) and unity within the community (solidarity).
Artist Kim Joon creates digital 3D collages of the human forms with striking textures to explore the themes of personal and cultural identity. Kim’s works visualize the desires and identity of the individuals, the collectives, and of the era.
Artist Hong Sungchul turns photographs into three-dimensional works of art by printing the photographs onto hundreds of elastic strings that he then aligns at varying depths. The individual strings are sculptured together to create one single image fulfilling their purpose.
