SUCH THINGS: REFLECTIONS OF NATURE

Waterfall presents a special group exhibition <SUCH THINGS: REFLECTIONS OF NATURE> of the prominent works by 9 international contemporary artists who embrace the characteristics of beauty that are intricate, admirable and unseen through the reflections discovered in nature. 

The 13 foot tall painting accompanied by a digital projection of dandelion seeds floating within the air, “Carmen’s Wish” created by multimedia artist Shane Pennington, is spotlighted in the waterfall sculpture garden. Pennington poetically depicts the balance and hope he reveals from the deep engagement with nature. 

Nikolai Makarov is a Russian born artist living in Berlin known for his ability to delicately converge his painted surfaces producing foggy, mysterious and restful qualities. The included 20 foot wide painting will immerse viewers in stillness, creating space for contemplation in the silence he creates.

Myoung Ho Lee is a Korean photographer and environmental activist well known for his ‘Tree Series’ since 2004, where he builds and installs a canvas in the background of a tree to signify what has once been neglected. Waterfall displays the most recent new media art projections extended from his body of work in <SUCH THINGS>.

Rex Hausmann is a painter from San Antonio, Texas who has been searching for colors en plein air to uncover the evanescent moments in time found in the environments he paints in. His excursions have led him all around Europe to rural areas of Texas and most recently New York’s Central park. For the artist, the discovery of colors, history and messages reflected from nature boldly displays the beauty and joys in life. 

Antonio Murado is a New York based painter from Spain whose art works investigate the passage of time and slowness in the process of making art and achieve romantic interpretations of nature, historical references and literature. His 12 foot wide painting “Slow Rain Coming” was created to embody endurance and patience.

The late Geri Taper (1929-2004) is a painter whose simple forms and lively colors inspired by her admiration for classical music and movement effortlessly portray the strength of the human spirit.  Taper states that “We see not with our eyes, but with our vision.” Her ‘One-Hundred Moon Series’ included in <SUCH THINGS> was the last body of work created prior to her death. 

Hye Rim Lee is a multimedia artist from New Zealand whose three-dimensional animated videos and photographs speak to the symbology of two opposing states to find beauty that are found and remain in brokenness.  <SUCH THINGS> includes Lee’s new series of digital prints evolved from her most recent media art ‘Black Rose Series’.  The Black Rose fearlessly depicts a diamond dreamscape for an ever ending journey in shifting identity and spirituality. 

Dae Soo Kim, from Korea, has worked with one of the oldest photographic techniques using an analog camera for over 40 years. His works have focused on the deep and sacred relationship between man and nature through the sensitivities and uniqueness of bamboo forests since 1998. In <Such Things> Waterfall showcases ‘Body to Soul’ as part of his ‘Bamboo Forest Series’ which captures the spirit of accountability, perseverance and harmony in life. 

Dawn Waters Baker is an artist in faith from the Philippines, currently based in Texas. Baker finds herself entering into something deeper, richer, and fuller through the images presented by nature. Her most recent paintings depict the emotional and spiritual state unseen to the naked eye in landscapes. Believing that human beings connect to the landscape through their senses, she is more interested in what is felt than what is literal. 

Through these selections of artist’s visual accounts, inspired and reflected by nature, the exhibition <SUCH THINGS> encourages viewers to consider such things and search for their own novelties in life during times of need.

Philippians 4:8 …Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.
