SUNGHYUN MOON
MOMENTS OF PEACE: WATERCOLORS
Sponsored by Kalamazoo Institute of Arts and The Waterfall Arts Foundation
June 29th, 2019 - October 13th, 2019
Based in Paris and South Korea, Peter Moon's technique has been likened to the style of mid-20th century American painters like Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning. He has been featured in eight solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions throughout Korea.
In reflecting on his work, he has talked about exploring in a figurative way the pains felt during my life, and the meditative flow between paint and paper, which are just like my praying spirit while working these layers. Viewers will understand his references to rest and serenity, and an honesty that has nothing to hide.
Moon layers drip, and splatter his watercolors, taking advantage of their fluid and translucent nature. His evocative paintings invite viewers to contemplate each work's surface to explore the unique compositions of color, texture, and depth. This exhibition is curated by fellow Fari Nzinga.
"Water cleanses stains and grows life. The cycle of water connects the sky and the earth. Water is the beginning of life with its holy nature. I treasure water the most" -Peter Moon
